Roblox displays your experience's genre and optional subgenre on its main page. It also uses this information when placing experiences in genre-specific top and trending sorts on the Charts page.

Set your genre

1. Open the Creator Dashboard.
2. Select the thumbnail of the experience you want to configure.
3. In the left navigation, select Configure ⟩ Settings.
4. Select the genre that best represents the experience.
5. Optionally, select an applicable subgenre.

Roblox recommends choosing the genre that best describes the experience's primary purpose or core gameplay loop. A subgenre can describe its core mechanics more precisely, but it is optional.

Understand the three-month restriction

You can change an experience's genre only once every three months. For a new experience, Roblox recommends waiting until you are confident about its genre before selecting one.

After a genre update, the new genre appears immediately on the experience's main page. It may take a few days to appear in other discovery systems, including genre-specific Charts sorts.

What happens if Roblox changes the genre

Roblox regularly reviews experiences and may correct genre selections that appear inaccurate. If Roblox changes your experience's genre, it notifies you by email and displays the change on the experience's Settings page.

You can appeal a Roblox-initiated genre change:

1. Confirm the change on the experience's Settings page in the Creator Dashboard.
2. Visit Roblox Support while signed in to an account with edit permission for the experience.
3. Select the Experience Genre help category.
4. Provide the experience's universe ID and submit the appeal.

Roblox states that it usually communicates the appeal outcome within a few days.

Keep related metadata accurate

Roblox says highly mismatched metadata and content receive less visibility in search and are not recommended to users. Metadata that implies a monetary reward is also not prioritized for recommendations.

Before selecting a genre, verify that it reflects the experience's current core gameplay and that its title, description, and other metadata accurately represent its content.
